Summer in the Hamptons is a great time to bring families together, whether it’s to celebrate a birthday, an anniversary, or just to gather everyone together for a reunion. It’s a great opportunity to have family photos taken. Not only is a family photo session a lot of fun for everyone, but the result are treasured keepsakes that will be passed on for generations.
Whether it takes place at your home or at one of the beautiful Hamptons beaches, a little preparation can make the event even more successful:
3 Ways to Prepare for Your Family Reunion Photos
1. Clothing: In terms of clothing, keep it simple. Lighter is better than darker. Avoid patterns, logos, and stripes.
Everyone does not have to be identical, but when everyone wears a similar tonality, you get the best effect. Khaki and white, blue jeans and white, khaki and pastel colors like light blue, yellow and pink all work great.
Make sure that girls and women can sit comfortably if they are wearing skirts (avoid tight skirts and short dresses.)
2. Kids: For children under the age of twelve, bring an extra set of clothes, a sweater or sweatshirt if it gets cool, and a towel in case someone gets wet. For those with long hair, please bring hair ties, clips, ribbons, and gel or hair spray in case it’s windy.
3. Snacks: It is a good idea to bring along some snacks for the children as well as the adults. For the children, bring drinks and easy to eat non-staining snacks such as Cheerios, Teddy Grahams, pretzels, carrot sticks, or apple slices. Candy is not recommended. It’s best if the kids can stay relatively calm and focused.
For the adults, cheese, crackers and wine can a relaxing addition to your beach bag. Remember I will be working with different groupings at different times so the others can enjoy the evening.
Most families ask for smaller group portraits in addition to the large family shots. Typical groupings include:
• The whole family
• The grandparents with the grandchildren
• The grandchildren
• If there are 3 generations, a photograph of all the guys and all the gals
• Each immediate family
• The children of each family
• Candids
I am always open to your suggestions. And of course, pets are welcome too!!
